Aqua Foundation’s World Aqua Congress (Conference & Exhibition) brings water, environment and related professionals from around the world and offers new insights into how cutting edge research, technological innovation and leading practices shape the major transformation in water management. The conference provided a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends in best practices, innovative technologies and cutting edge research. Connecting experts from across water and environment sectors, it deliberated on challenges of delivering clean water to growing populations, keeping rivers and water bodies clean & healthy, best practices for ground water exploration and management, industrial water management, enhancing water use efficiency, impact of climate change, policies and regulations, and acknowledging champions of water & environment.
Bottled water not only leads to plastic pollution but also results in water mining. To set up a big plant near a water abundant area, bottled water companies need to extract groundwater from a source at a rate more than the replenishment rate leading to persistent decline in the groundwater levels. The groundwater is taken out, bottled, and then shipped all over the country or world and this water never goes back. When the water table depletes beyond a critical limit, bottling companies just move from that area leaving a grave water scarcity.
WAE, by the very nature of its positioning empowers corporates and institutions to say no to bottled water and cut their carbon footprints by at least 70% and enables them to save millions of liters of water per year. The above program has been successful in eliminating thousands of plastic waste and decreased contribution to the landfills. Groundwater depletion impacts everyone and everything in the area who uses water: farmers, businesses, animals, ecosystems, tourism, and the regular guy getting his water from a well. Millions of gallons of water out of the ground leaves the water table depleted uniformly and not just in that area because water table is connected across the landmass. Bottling Plants generate water scarcity and impact ecological balance.
